Two European silver medals

The 9th EC volleyball in Paris finished last weekend. Russian women’s and men’s teams gained the same results – both teams became European vice-champions. 
Competitors from 8 countries took part in the women’s tournament which was held in Paris, July.  They came from Hungary, Holland, Italy, Poland, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and France. 
 
The Russian women's national team, under the leadership of Alexander Grebenshchikov and George Semenov, beat the Hungarian team in the group stage- 3: 0 (25: 9; 25: 8; 25:18), Turkey - 3: 0 (29:27; 25:20; 25:10), and Italy - 3: 2 (22:25; 25:16; 25:23; 30:32; 17:15). In the quarterfinals the French team was defeated by our team - 3: 0 (25: 6; 25:10; 25:12). In the semi-finals the Polish athletes could not withstand under the onslaught of the Russians - 3: 0 (25:14; 25:18; 25: 7). At the end of a tough struggle, our team lost to the strongest team in the world - the Ukrainian national team - 0: 3 (25:27; 23:25; 23:25).
 
Julia Elizova, Anna Ilyuhina, Ekaterina Kireeva, Elizabeth Alekseeva, Anna Solovieva, Anastasia Mitrofanova, Natalia Trubova Anna Sudarikova, Anna Usova, Maria Katanskaya. Anna Lukanova, Daria Nekrasova became 2015 European vice-champions.
 
Male athletes from 10 countries arrived in Paris to compete for awards. They came from Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, Poland, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and France.
 
In the group stage the Russian team confidently coped with their rivals, defeating the French team - 3: 0 (25: 6; 25:18; 25:13); Italy - 3: 0 (25:19; 25:19; 25:16); Poland - 3: 0 (25:22; 25:16; 26:24). It was very difficult to win the game against the Turkish team - 3: 2 (22:25; 25:22; 22:25; 25:13; 15:10). In the quarterfinals our athletes beat the Belarusian team - 3: 0 (25: 8; 25:19; 25:23), and in the semi-finals - the Italian team 3: 1 (25:18; 23:25; 25:21; 25 :15). In the second match against the Turkish team, our sportsmen failed to win the game and were defeated with the score 0: 3 (23:25; 15:25; 23:25).
 
Maxim Seljutin, Maxim Salmin, Alexander Kudryashov, Pavel Romantsov, Stanislav Sinelnikov, Alexey Petrochenko, Andrey Vesnin, George Pleshkevich, Dmitry Elizov, Sergey Okunev, Vladimir Shmygin, Alexander Shuvaev became European vice-champions.
